Zinc Chloride Liquid Solution Manufacturer & Supplier in India

The primary advantage of the liquid form over the solid powder is operational convenience. Zinc Chloride powder is a highly hygroscopic, deliquescent solid that requires careful storage, moisture-protected handling, and a dissolution step before it can be used in most process applications. Zinc Chloride Liquid eliminates all of these constraints: it is ready for immediate use or dilution, can be dosed directly into flux baths or process tanks by metering pumps, eliminates powder dust exposure risks during preparation, and ensures consistent concentration in every delivery because the percentage is verified analytically before dispatch.

Zinc Chloride Liquid is an acidic solution the pH range of 1-5 reflects the hydrolytic behaviour of the Zn²⁺ ion in aqueous solution, which releases hydrogen ions and lowers the pH well below 7. This acidity is not merely a physical property but a functional asset in galvanizing flux applications: the acidic ZnCl₂ solution aids in dissolving residual iron oxide films on steel surfaces, complementing the chemical cleaning action of the flux before the molten zinc bath. The specific gravity of 1.43-1.48 at 30°C is a practical quality indicator that experienced buyers use to quickly verify solution concentration on receipt at their facility without requiring laboratory analysis.

What Is Zinc Chloride Liquid Solution Used For?

Zinc Chloride Liquid is preferred wherever a ready-to-use, dust-free, and directly meterable form of ZnCl₂ is needed for continuous or high-volume industrial processes.

Galvanizing & Metal Finishing

Galvanizing Flux Bath and Wet-Process Fluxing

In the hot-dip galvanizing industry, Zinc Chloride Liquid is used directly in wet-process flux baths, where steel articles are immersed in the solution before passing into the molten zinc bath. The acidic ZnCl₂ solution cleans residual iron oxide from the steel surface and activates the metal for metallurgical bonding with the zinc coating. Because the liquid is ready-to-use at the correct concentration, galvanizing operators can maintain bath chemistry more precisely by adding measured volumes rather than dissolving weighed quantities of solid powder. This is especially beneficial for continuous galvanizing lines where bath concentration control is monitored in real time. Zinc Chloride Liquid is also used in mixed flux formulations where it is combined with Ammonium Chloride solution to produce zinc ammonium chloride flux baths with specific ratios of the two components.

Textile Processing

Cotton Mercerising and Resin Finishing Catalyst

Zinc Chloride Liquid at high concentration is used as a mercerising agent for cotton textiles, where the concentrated ZnCl₂ solution swells cellulose fibres and improves lustre, tensile strength, and dye affinity. In vulcanised fibre production, concentrated Zinc Chloride solution is the essential gelatinising agent that partially dissolves the cellulose paper substrate, fusing layers together to form the hard, dense fibre material used in electrical insulation, gaskets, and luggage. At lower concentrations, Zinc Chloride Liquid serves as a catalyst in resin-based durable-press and wrinkle-resistance finishing systems for cotton and cotton-synthetic blends. The liquid form simplifies dosing in textile finishing pad-bath systems where precise concentration control and consistent liquor ratios are essential for uniform fabric treatment.

Water Treatment

Corrosion Inhibitor in Cooling Water Systems

Zinc Chloride Liquid is used as a corrosion inhibitor component in cooling water treatment formulations. The zinc ion in solution functions as a cathodic inhibitor, precipitating as zinc hydroxide at cathodic sites on metal surfaces under the influence of the local alkaline microenvironment created at those sites. This hydroxide precipitate forms a thin, continuous protective film that reduces the rate of oxygen-reduction reactions at the cathode and thereby slows the overall corrosion process. Zinc-based inhibitors are typically used in combination with phosphate, polyphosphate, or organic corrosion inhibitors in cooling tower water treatment programmes. The liquid form allows accurate metering of the required zinc dosage into the cooling system by chemical dosing pumps, which is the standard delivery method for most cooling water treatment chemicals.

Petroleum & Chemical Processing

Emulsion Breaker and Chemical Processing Agent

In petroleum refining and crude oil processing, Zinc Chloride solution functions as an emulsion breaker that separates oil from water in produced water streams. Its mechanism involves the destabilisation of oil-water emulsions stabilised by surface-active materials ZnCl₂ can neutralise or complex the interfacially active species, breaking the emulsion and allowing phase separation. In broader chemical manufacturing, Zinc Chloride Liquid is used as a Lewis acid catalyst in liquid-phase reactions where a pre-dissolved form is more practical than adding a solid to a reaction mixture. It is also used in parchment paper manufacturing, where the paper web is treated with Zinc Chloride solution that partially dissolves and regenerates the surface cellulose, creating the grease-resistant, transparent character of vegetable parchment paper.

Frequently Asked Questions

Meghachem's standard Zinc Chloride Liquid specification covers four parameters: Zn assay 22-24%, ZnCl₂ assay 42-46%, pH 1-5, and specific gravity 1.43-1.48 at 30°C. The physical appearance is a clear, colourless to pale yellow liquid with no visible precipitate or turbidity. A Certificate of Analysis confirming all four parameters is provided with every shipment. Buyers who require a concentration outside the standard range — for example, a higher or lower ZnCl₂ percentage for a specific process requirement — can discuss custom specifications with our technical team.

Zinc Chloride Liquid is acidic because the Zn²⁺ ion undergoes hydrolysis in water, releasing hydrogen ions and lowering the pH below 7. At the standard Meghachem concentration of 42-46% ZnCl₂, the pH is 1-5, confirming significant acidity. This pH range is functionally important in galvanizing flux applications, where the acidic solution helps dissolve residual iron oxide from steel surfaces before zinc coating. From a quality control perspective, the pH is also a quick indicator that the solution has not been diluted below specification or contaminated with an alkaline material, as either would raise the pH above the specified range. Buyers should use appropriate acid-resistant PPE when handling the solution.

The most practical field method for verifying Zinc Chloride Liquid concentration on receipt is to measure specific gravity at 30°C using a hydrometer and compare the reading against Meghachem's specification of 1.43-1.48. Specific gravity is directly correlated with ZnCl₂ concentration — a reading within the specified range confirms the solution is at the correct strength. For a more precise analytical confirmation, ZnCl₂ or Zn content can be determined by EDTA titration in a laboratory, which directly gives the percentage by mass. The Certificate of Analysis provided by Meghachem with every shipment documents the specific gravity and Zn% of the actual batch dispatched, which can be compared with your own on-receipt measurement.

Zinc Chloride Liquid is acidic and corrosive to unprotected metals, so ordinary mild steel tanks and drums are not suitable for storage. Approved materials include high-density polyethylene (HDPE), polypropylene (PP), fiberglass-reinforced plastic (FRP), and rubber-lined steel tanks. Stainless steel (316L) is acceptable for short-term contact but is not recommended for long-term bulk storage because chloride ions can cause stress corrosion cracking in stainless steel under some conditions. All valves, pumps, and fittings in contact with the solution should be specified in HDPE, PP, or acid-resistant rubber. Storage should be in a cool, ventilated area away from direct sunlight, with containers kept sealed to prevent evaporation and concentration change.

Yes. While Meghachem's standard Zinc Chloride Liquid specification is ZnCl₂ 42-46%, we can discuss custom concentration ranges for buyers who have a specific process requirement outside this range. For example, galvanizing operators who run a specific flux bath ZnCl₂ concentration, or textile processors who need a particular percentage for their mercerising system, can enquire about a customised concentration. Custom specifications are available for buyers with qualifying volume commitments. Please mention your required ZnCl₂ percentage or specific gravity target when submitting your inquiry, and our technical team will advise on feasibility and pricing.

Zinc Chloride Liquid is acidic and corrosive to skin, eyes, and mucous membranes. Chemical-resistant gloves (nitrile or neoprene), safety goggles or face shield, and acid-resistant protective clothing are required when handling, transferring, or sampling the liquid. In case of skin contact, wash immediately with large amounts of water for at least 15-20 minutes. Eye contact requires immediate flushing with water and urgent medical attention. The solution must not be allowed to enter drains or watercourses, as zinc is acutely toxic to aquatic life. Spills should be contained and neutralised with lime or sodium carbonate before disposal. Full safety handling and emergency response details are provided in the Material Safety Data Sheet supplied with every Meghachem shipment.
